The saw that goes where machines will not

A hand saw gets carried to the cut. Up a ladder, into a roof space, down a trench, along a scaffold, inside a finished room. If a person can stand there the saw can cut there, which is worth a great deal on jobs where setting up a tracked machine would take longer than the cut itself.

It cuts to 150mm, which covers most house slabs, brickwork, blockwork, pipe and pavers. Where the job turns out to be deeper we bring the ring saw alongside it and reach 270mm without changing crews or making a second trip.

Because it sets up in minutes it is usually the right call on small jobs and on the last few percent of big ones. Squaring off a corner the wall saw could not reach, trimming an opening to fit a frame, cutting a couple of pavers, opening a slab up for a repair.

The jobs a hand saw does best

Small, awkward, urgent, or the last cut on a big job. Anything where getting a machine in would cost more than the cutting.

  • Small openings

    Doorways, servery holes, vents and duct penetrations through brick, block and thinner concrete walls.

  • Slab repairs

    Cutting out a failed or cracked section of path, driveway or shed floor so a clean square patch can go back in.

  • Finishing other cuts

    Squaring the corners a tracked saw cannot reach, so nothing is left to be broken out with a hammer afterwards.

  • Pipes and drainage

    Cutting concrete and clay pipe, kerb and drainage components to length in the trench, on site.

How deep will a hand saw cut?

Up to 150mm. Where the job needs more we run the ring saw alongside it and get to 270mm without a second crew or a tracked machine coming to site.

Is a hand saw accurate enough for a door opening?

For an opening that has to be dead square to a frame, a wall saw on a track is the right tool. A hand saw is accurate enough for most openings, and it is what we use to finish the corners a wall saw cannot reach.

Do you cut brick and block as well as concrete?

Yes. Brick, block, pavers, pipe and reinforced concrete are all standard work for a hand saw.

Will you come to Echuca for one small cut?

Yes. We are through Echuca and Moama most weeks, so a small job gets slotted into the run rather than priced as a special trip. Tell us your timing and we will tell you when we are next in town.

Can you cut without water inside a house?

We cut wet wherever we can, because dry cutting concrete makes silica dust. Inside a finished house we bund and vacuum the water, or run dust extraction where water genuinely cannot be used.

Can you come out after hours?

Yes, 24 hours a day, all year. Hand sawing is usually the gear on the emergency calls, because it is already in the truck and ready to go.
