Metres per hour, not metres per day
A road saw is a walk behind machine with the weight and the horsepower to push a big blade through a slab all day. On long straight runs it is far and away the cheapest way to cut concrete, which is why it does the trench lines, the road openings and the carpark works.
Ours is a Husqvarna FS 5000 D, a diesel unit narrow enough to fit through a standard doorway. It runs a Tier 4 Final emissions system, so it goes inside without filling the place with the exhaust fumes an older diesel saw puts out. That combination is not common: most machines with that much cutting power cannot get inside a building, and most machines that fit inside cannot cut deep enough to matter.
It cuts concrete and bitumen equally happily, wet, with the slurry controlled. Being diesel it runs on a site with no power on it yet, which is usually exactly the stage a job is at when the trench lines need marking out and cutting.

Where the floor saw goes first
If the cut is long, straight and on a flat surface, this is the machine that should be doing it.
Trench lines
Cutting both sides of a service trench through a slab or a road so the break out is clean and the reinstatement is a straight edge.
Road openings

Road sawing in Bendigo, usually overnight

How deep will a road saw cut?
Deep enough for the great majority of slabs and road pavements in a single pass, and it will step down through thicker sections in more than one. For anything past a floor saw we move to a wall saw or a wire saw.
Can you get a road saw inside a building?
Yes. The Husqvarna FS 5000 D fits through a standard doorway, which is unusual for a machine with that much cutting power, and its Tier 4 Final emissions system means it can run indoors without the fumes a traditional diesel saw brings with it. On a completely sealed space we will still sort the ventilation with you, or put the fully electric demolition robot and hand saws on it instead.
Can you cut bitumen as well as concrete?
Yes, both. Road openings are usually a mix of the two and it is the same machine and the same visit.
Will you cut a road at night?
Yes, and it is often the sensible way to do it. We run 24 hours a day, so a road, a carpark or a service station forecourt can be cut overnight and be back in use for the morning.
What happens to the slurry?
It is bunded and vacuumed rather than left to run into a drain. On road and carpark work that is usually a permit condition anyway, and it keeps the site tidy for whoever is working next to us.
Do you mark out the cut lines?
We will cut to your set out, or set it out ourselves from a plan or a dimension off a fixed point. Either way we confirm the line with you on site before the blade goes down, because a cut is hard to put back.
