A road saw is a walk behind machine with the weight and the horsepower to push a big blade through a slab all day. On long straight runs nothing else comes close on price, which is why it does the trench lines, the road openings and the carpark work.

Ours is a Husqvarna FS 5000 D. It is diesel, and it is still narrow enough to fit through a standard doorway, which is an unusual combination. Most machines with that much cutting power will not get inside a building, and most machines that fit inside will not cut deep enough to be worth bringing.

It runs a Tier 4 Final emissions system, so it can work indoors without filling the place with the fumes an older diesel saw puts out. Being diesel it also runs on a site with no power connected yet, which is exactly the stage most jobs are at when the trench lines need cutting.

Where the floor saw goes first

If the cut is long, straight and on a flat surface, this is the machine that should be doing it.

  • Trench lines

    Cutting both sides of a service trench through a slab or a road so the break out is clean and the reinstatement has a straight edge to work to.

  • Road openings

    Bitumen and concrete road cuts for water, sewer, power and telco works, done overnight so the street opens again in the morning.

  • Shed and dairy floors

    Squaring off a section of shed, dairy or factory floor for removal, replacement, a new pit or a new drain run.

How deep will a road saw cut?

Deep enough for the great majority of slabs and road pavements in one pass, and it will step down through thicker sections in more than one. Past a floor saw we move to a wall saw or the wire saw.

Can you get a road saw inside a building?

Yes. The Husqvarna FS 5000 D fits through a standard doorway, which is unusual for a machine with that much power, and the Tier 4 Final emissions system means it can run indoors without the fumes an older diesel saw brings with it. In a completely sealed space we will sort ventilation with you or put the electric robot and hand saws on it instead.

Can you cut bitumen as well as concrete?

Both, and road openings are usually a mix of the two anyway. Same machine, same visit.

Will you cut a road in Echuca at night?

Yes, and it is usually the sensible way to do it. We run 24 hours a day, so a road, a carpark or a service station forecourt gets cut overnight and is back in use for the morning trade.

What happens to the slurry?

It is bunded and vacuumed rather than left to run into a drain. On work near the river that is a permit condition as often as not, and it keeps the site tidy for whoever is working beside us.

Do you set out the cut lines?

We will cut to your set out, or set it out ourselves from a plan or a dimension off a fixed point. Either way the line gets confirmed with you on site first, because a cut is very hard to put back.
