Riverside Concrete Cutting
Polished concrete floor with full aggregate exposure reflecting the light across a large room

Polished ConcreteBendigo

Husqvarna Superfloor accredited. The slab you already paid for, turned into the finished floor.

The floor is already there

Polished concrete is not a covering. It is the slab itself, ground back through progressively finer diamonds and densified until it takes a polish. There is nothing to lift, nothing to re glue and nothing to replace in ten years, which is why it ends up cheaper over the life of a building than most things you would lay on top of it.

How much aggregate shows is a decision, not an accident. A burnished finish keeps the cream and reads almost plain. A honed finish opens up the sand. Full exposure grinds down into the stone and gives you the terrazzo look. We will show you the difference on your slab before we commit to a level.

Riverside Concrete Cutting is a Husqvarna Superfloor accredited contractor, and the polished side of the business travels: interstate into Queensland and across to New Zealand. Bendigo work is the easy end of that.

Where it goes down

New slabs and old ones. The finish you can get out of an existing floor depends on what has been done to it, which is what the first site visit is for.

  • New homes

Polishing the slab as the finished floor through living areas, so there is no timber, tile or vinyl to buy or replace later.

  • Renovations

Grinding back an existing slab after the carpet, tile or vinyl comes up, and finding out what is under there first.

  • Retail and hospitality

Shop, cafe and venue floors that take a hammering from foot traffic and still clean up with a mop.

  • Warehouses and industrial

Hard wearing, dust free floors that handle forklift traffic without the maintenance of a coating.

  • Garages and sheds

Sealed or polished shed floors that stop the dusting and do not stain when something gets spilled on them.

  • Floor coatings

Where polishing is not the right answer, epoxy and grind and seal systems over a properly prepared slab.

Finished polished concrete floor in a Bendigo home showing an even aggregate exposure

Polished concrete in Bendigo homes, shops and sheds

Polished concrete in Bendigo covers three fairly different jobs. New homes where the slab becomes the finished floor through the living areas. Shops, cafes and venues that need a floor which survives foot traffic and cleans with a mop. And sheds, garages and warehouses where the point is a hard, dust free surface rather than a look.

The price range reflects that spread. Around $70 a square metre at the burnished end on a clean new slab, up to around $180 for full exposure on a floor that needs real preparation first. Where a job lands depends on the slab you have, not on a menu.

Which is exactly why it gets quoted on site. We are Husqvarna Superfloor accredited and the polished side of the business travels as far as Queensland and New Zealand, but we still want to see the floor and grind a test patch before anybody signs anything, because no two slabs come up the same.

Asked often

How much does polished concrete cost?

It runs from around $70 per square metre up to around $180, driven by the finish level, the condition of the slab and how much preparation it needs. A burnished finish on a clean new slab sits at the bottom of that range and full exposure on an old floor at the top.

What is the difference between burnished, honed and full exposure?

How far down into the slab we grind. Burnished stays in the cream and reads nearly plain. Honed opens up the sand. Full exposure cuts into the stone for the terrazzo look. We will grind a test patch on your slab so you are choosing off the real thing.

Can you polish an existing floor?

Often, yes. Once the covering and the adhesive come off we can see what the slab is actually like. Old slabs can carry patches, penetrations and colour variation, and that is a conversation to have before you commit, not after.

Is polished concrete slippery?

Less than most people expect. A polished floor is dense rather than glossy, and where slip rating matters, in a commercial kitchen or an entry, we specify the finish and the sealer to suit rather than polishing it as far as it will go.

What maintenance does it need?

Sweep it and mop it. There is no stripping, sealing or recoating cycle like a vinyl or coated floor, which is where most of the whole of life saving comes from.

Are there terms and conditions on polished concrete work?

Yes. Concrete is a natural material and no two slabs finish identically, so our polished concrete terms cover variation, existing slab condition and what we can and cannot guarantee. They are on the terms page rather than buried in a quote.

Come and look at the slab

Area, whether the slab is new or has had a covering on it, and the look you are after. Polished concrete is quoted on the floor, not over the phone.
