A wire saw is not limited by blade radius, because there is no blade. The wire is threaded through or around the section and pulled through it, which means bridge headstocks, piers, abutments, deep footings, weir and channel structures and heavily reinforced mass concrete all get cut without anybody arguing about depth.
It cuts cold. No percussion, no hammering and almost no vibration going back into the structure. On a river crossing still carrying traffic, on an old masonry structure, or on anything sitting over live services, that is usually the whole reason it gets specified in the first place.
The face it leaves is flat and square, so what stays behind is in a condition you can pour against, bolt to or land steel on. Nothing has to be made good before the next stage starts.

What ends up on the wire
Wire sawing costs more per metre than a blade, so we only put a job on it when the job genuinely needs it. These are the ones that do.
Bridges and crossings
Headstocks, piers, abutments and deck sections cut without shaking a structure that is still carrying traffic over the river or the channel.

How thick can a wire saw cut?
There is no practical limit. A wall saw stops at 730mm from one side because it is bound by blade diameter. A wire is a loop, so once it is around the section, thickness is no longer the deciding factor.
Will it damage the structure around it?
No. It cuts cold, with no percussion and almost no vibration, which is why it gets used on live bridges, old masonry and anything sitting over services a breaker would wreck.
Can it cut through steel?
Yes. Heavy rebar, post tension anchors and embedded steel plate all go through, and that is often exactly why a job ends up on the wire instead of a blade.
Does the wire need holes drilled first?
Usually. We core a small hole at each end of the cut and thread the wire through. Where the section has a free edge on both sides we can sometimes wrap it without coring at all.
Do you travel to Echuca for wire work?
Yes. Echuca and Moama are on our regular run, and wire jobs turn up wherever the bridge, the channel or the plant happens to be. We work through northern Victoria and across the border into southern New South Wales.
Is wire sawing worth the extra cost?
